Frontier Runtime is available in three forms: as licensed software, for network managers and consultants; it’s bundled with scriptable applications such as Quark XPress 3.2, Aladdin SITcomm 1.0 and Frontier 3.0; and it can be downloaded electronically from on-line services as shareware.
This is the shareware Runtime 3.0 package. It comes with a 30-day free trial period. After 30 days, you must register your use of Runtime with UserLand Software. The registration fee is $35. We accept Visa and MasterCard. If you register via mail, fax or email, please include the following information with your order: your name as it appears on the credit card, mailing address, credit card number, expiration date and daytime phone number.
How to Install

1. You can place this folder on any disk, in any sub-folder. It does not need to be in your System Folder.
2. Frontier Runtime 3.0 requires Apple's Thread Manager 1.2, which is included in the package. Copy it into the Extensions sub-folder of your System Folder and restart your system.

Guide to Other Downloads

UserLand Software maintains three on-line support services on CompuServe, America On-Line and AppleLink. In each of these forums, you'll find several downloads that add new features to the Frontier Runtime package. If you need help locating them, please post a public message and we'll provide a pointer.
1. Sample Scripts -- A collection of over 20 scripts written using Apple's Script Editor ("SE"). If you have an open script editor such as SE, you can customize these scripts for your own use. They are sample scripts, some of them may be useful as-is. But their main purpose is to give you ideas for your own scripts, or provide you with starter code that works.
2. FinderMenu 3.0 -- Turns the System 7 Finder into a *menu-sharing* compatible program. You'll see a new menu in the Finder’s menu bar, the Scripts menu. It contains several hierarchic sub-menus, each containing a selection of new commands that operate within the Finder environment. Behind each of these commands is a script, implemented in UserTalk, Frontier's native scripting language. This is one of the most powerful demonstrations of menu sharing.
3. uBASE 1.0 -- uBASE is a fast flat-file database for script writers. Unlike FileMaker, 4th Dimension and FoxBase, uBASE is designed to serve scripts, not users. It has almost no user interface. It’s a very small program that loads quickly. It has a very simple scripting interface. uBASE is ideal for the data storage needs of many scripts. The Sample Scripts package contains a script that shows how to program uBASE.
4. BarChart 3.0 -- is a simple color graphics program that displays bar charts that are managed by scripts. There are two BarChart scripts in the Sample Scripts package.
5. DocServer 3.0 -- Provides on-line documentation for all Frontier verbs supported by Frontier Runtime. It's specially useful if you want to understand how the scripts in the Sample Scripts package work.
6. Nerd's Guide to Frontier -- a concise technical overview of Frontier 2.0 for experienced programmers. Screen shots, lots of sample scripts. From “Hello World” to object model scripting. Explains the UserTalk language, storage system, script editor/debugger, menu sharing, desktop scripts, droplets, DocServer.
